Spring Break March 2013

While we didn't get much "Spring" or a "Break" this week, we were able to have some hours of fun here and there.  It was somewhat disappointing to think, while I was sitting at OneWorld this week, that this is the last Spring Break I will EVER have.  And how was I celebrating?  Well, I wasn't really.

It was nice to have a break from homework, though.  I was able to just focus on seeing clients and Justin  spent some extra time working.

This is a picture of the life size buffalo statue that my boss bought a while ago.  He has some other statue that when they are put out I will get pictures of them.

These next few pictures are of me sneaking up and taking some pictures of the ducks and geese on the pond.  There is normally a large group spread throughout the pond so this is just a few.

I cut a bunch more trees down this past week and burned a lot of them.  The first picture is of about 10 trees and the last threes pictures are of 20 plus trees burning.  I added about 20 more to it as the fire burned a couple of hours later.  I thought the sublimation of the snow to vapor in a few of the pictures turned out well.

We started out Thursday by me losing a bet.  When it had snowed a couple weeks ago I had made some comment about how I could handle it because it would probably be the last snow of the season.  Justin guaranteed me that it would not be the last.  So, being the competitive people we are....cookies were on the line.  And I lost.

Thursday was also the only day we were free to do something to celebrate Spring Break.  We had decided to try to do something random around Lincoln that we normally would not take the time to do.  So, with Hebron, NE as our destination, we set off with our friends Kyle and Stephanie for a little adventure.

First stop...

This little monument is in Beatrice, and was very informative about the Homestead Act.  Apparently it is on the sight of the first claim that was given under the act.  It was interesting to read about some of the history.  This was a cabin they brought from somewhere else (don't remember where), but they said a family of 10 lived there.  Talk about small!

The coolest thing I learned about the Homestead Act was that it was in effect until 1986!  That was only a year before Justin and I were born!  Mom? Dad?  Why didn't you get in on this free land stuff?  :)

And then on to Hebron for.......(drumroll)....

THE WORLD'S LARGEST PORCH SWING!!!  Okay, so apparently the Internet tells us that Canada one-upped us, so this is now the 2nd largest porch swing, and it wasn't on a porch, but it was still pretty cool.  It can hold up to about 25 people

The four of us could lay across it...

And a few more pictures of Justin and I on the swing...

Also, there was this pretty awesome sentence found on the sign...

So this was Justin and I "friskin' around" on the porch swing (aka - me trying to get one little kiss and Justin having none of it, at least in public)

And if the WORLD'S LARGEST PORCH SWING wasn't awesome enough, the park also supplies a hamster wheel for humans!

So it was nice to be able to go do something out-of-the-ordinary.  Maybe we sorta did have a break after all!  And now, we're just buckling down for the rest of the semester.  Justin has got tests coming up, and I've got final papers and presentations.  And then....JUSTIN GRADUATES!!! One degree down, who knows how many to go? (Just kidding) Woot! Woot!
