The weather has started cooling off, and even though it's been a nice relief, I can't help but feel a sense of dread as I realize that the colder weather means one very important thing: winter is coming.
I hate winter.
But, there is always some excitement when the weather starts to change. I get to get out my fall decorations, the football season starts, fall baking starts (yum!). In fact, I'm going to try my hand at this delicious-looking Salted Caramel Apple Pie recipe. Doesn't look yummy?
This fall is also going to bring a once-in-my-lifetime (well, second, I guess) activity. The place I work, The Child Advocacy Center, hosts a "Monster Dash" 5k and 1 mile run each year at Roca Berry Farm. I'm not a runner. I have never enjoyed it. Anything where I have to run longer than five minutes is really just torture. But, since I feel obligated, I'm doing it, and it happens to be a weekend Justin is here on a visit, so he's gonna do it with me.
So, even though I'm not supposed to engage in any "strenuous activity" yet since surgery, I started "training" this week. I randomly selected a training program online that claims it can get me ready for a 5k in 6 weeks. We'll see. And since I'm already down to 5 weeks before the race, I figure I needed to get started.
I got this lovely blister after my first two days back exercising. I think it's been too long, what do you think?
It should be pretty "fun," though (that's Justin's word. I don't know what I'd call it). Justin will try to be speedy and win us a gift card, and I'll just try to finish without dying. It's good to know it's going to a good cause, and hey, we get a t-shirt!
It must run in the family, I HATE running. I have tried everything possible to like it but i still hate it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNo joke! Running makes me cry.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had to take some deep breaths before registering. Most people don't think twice about a 5k, and here I am feeling like I need to train for it. If it's a gene, I hope our kids inherit Justin's love for running :)
