I had the opportunity to travel to North Carolina with my cohort for a convention for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. Usually, this would be conference where I would be able to get a bunch of continuing ed credits, but since I don't need those until I'm licensed, I got to go for a reduced rate as a volunteer. The conference was interesting and I learned a lot, both about my profession, and about the importance of holding on to my values while being able to work with all sorts of populations. Those five days were definitely a time for a lot of growth.
The exciting thing was that I got to travel to a place I had never been. Charlotte, NC is a pretty awesome city. We had a lot of fun exploring it. We also ate some amazing cajun food, and there was an exciting night life (it'd probably be even more exciting if I drank, lol). For the most part, thought, we didn't have much time to explore, and we were somewhat limited without any access to a car. Here are some pictures of the city from our hotel window...
All of their buildings had really cool architecture. We could see the Panthers stadium from our hotel room, and it was cool to see all the turquoise on game day. Our hotel was also right across the street from the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It was cool because instead of the normal lines marking a crosswalk, the crosswalks around the hall of fame were all checkered like a NASCAR flag. Although I'm not a big fan of NASCAR, I did walk into the gift shop to take a look around. Didn't buy anything, though.
All in all, it was a good trip. The only thing that would have made it better would be if Justin were there with me :)
