Graduation and Passing Time

The Master's degree adventure finally came to a close.  Even though graduation just passed, I was done with school a week or two earlier.  Luckily, that meant we were able to go out to Scotts Bluff to visit family.  We got to support Cameron on his baptism day, and got to be there for the Britton's baby blessing.  It was fun to be with family for the weekend.

We didn't take many pictures.  In fact, the only picture we took was while we were driving to Hershey.  We had a contest to see who could suck a Werther's candy the fastest.  These were the results....

Justin has much better sucking action than I do, apparently.  Mine was only about half gone by the time he finished.

Not having any school also left me LOTS and LOTS of time to get a good start on some projects.  I got out the sewing machine and made an apron, and then I finally got started on the quilt I am making for our future bed/room.  I keep telling Justin I have a vision, and he's being a good sport.  It sounds like I may have even talked him into (finally) staining our dressers.  And just for the record, it is staining, not painting.  Turns out he was so against it from the beginning because I kept saying I wanted to paint it. Stain, not paint.  Big difference. Once that was clarified he was a little more willing to support me in my crafty-ness.  So, this is what I want to do with our dressers, and this is the one block I finished for our quilt.

Yep, yellow and gray.  The colors may be a little over-used right now, but I've always liked it.  I did the one block because I wanted to see what it would look like, but I'm doing the other 41 squares all at the same time (i.e., doing the pinwheel for every square, then Step 2 for every square, etc). It's kept me busy while I'm looking for jobs.

Finally, graduation was Friday!!  It's amazing both how fast and slow two years can seem.  When I think about everything that's happened since I moved here it seems insane how much has been crammed into two years (not just school, but getting married, being married for one year, etc).  It's been a great journey, and it was nice to be able to graduate with my cohort.  We've been through a lot together.

 One girl was not able to graduate with us because she is still finishing up her thesis, but she was there to support us.

And of course, my biggest support was there!  And lookin' mighty fine, I might add!

The best part is that graduation made both Justin and I famous.  I didn't know this until later, but as Justin was going to his seat he was being interviewed by a news reporter.  We didn't get to watch the news to see him because he didn't tell me about it until the next day.  Typical.  But, I'm sure he was awesome!  I was on front page news the next day.  Lincoln Journal Star!

Well, my hands were, anyway.  I was holding my friend's phone so she could use it as a mirror to put her cap on.  Some guy was taking pictures, but I just thought he was a photographer that would try to get us to buy graduation pictures later.  Didn't know he was with the Journal Star.  What could possibly be better than being on the front page you might ask?  Well, getting your name in the caption!

 

Maybe I should give up being a therapist and go into hand modeling...

Justin is still being busy with school.  We're hoping he'll be able to get his nursing application in within the next couple weeks.  I'm looking for jobs in the Lincoln/Omaha area for now, and we'll see where the future continues to take us!
