Baking and the 24th of July

So, I really enjoy baking.  Like really enjoy it.  And every once in a while I'm presented with an opportunity to actually try something new (and the time to do it).  And by "try something new" I am referring to trying someone else's recipe I have stumbled upon on Pinterest.  I am not good enough (or confident enough) yet to go off on my own and make my own creations, but maybe someday.  But here's a lemon-blueberry cake I made for a dinner with Tasha's family:

And, I made these cupcakes twice in one week.  Once was for a work potluck (which my boss told me I could open my own bakery...but then took that back because she said she wants me to still work there.  She did give me permission to do it part-time, on the side).  The other time was for a ward activity.

They're orange creamscicle cupcakes, with a cream cheese filling.

In the midst of the baking came a short visit from my sister and her family.  They stopped and spent the night on their way from Virginia to Utah, and we'll be following them out there this week.  This is my newest niece, and I took this picture to send out to my family to brag that I got to hold her first.

And last but not least, our primary was in charge of planning the ward party for the summer.  We did it in honor of the 24th of July, had a potluck dinner, and played "pioneer-themed" games, like potato sack races, stick pulls, three-legged race, etc.  It was really hot, but we all had a good time.  Here are some of the kiddos getting ready for the first race:

This week, Justin and I are heading out to Utah for a visit to my family.  We haven't all been together in two years, so it'll be fun to see everyone.  And for once we're flying, not driving!  I don't know what I'm going to do with such a quick traveling time :)  Justin keeps reminding me to bring our camera, so hopefully we'll actually have some pictures to post (we haven't been so good about that lately).
